Pattern Project
The purpose of this project was to explore pattern as a method of illustrating through the creation of a series of illustrations of graphics and patterns, while following the theme of the word “play”.
For my concept I wanted to relate it back to my experience of moving country’s - UK to Canada. I decided to select a variety of landmarks that stood out to me, in this case I focused mainly on buildings, comparing the similarities and differences between the two places, which created interest in each building as they all related to one another.
For the concept of play I wanted this to be reflected in the way I presented the colour, which was to not have the colour sitting so organized within the lines. Similar to how a lot of Disney backgrounds were used in the 90s animation style (101 Dalmatians) where the colour block is shifted ever so slightly, this helps make the overall feel of the design more playful and allows the illustrations to fit more within a children’s book style.
